Guest Tips
Begin your exploration by suggesting the hotel as a base for a self-guided street art tour. Around or juxtaposed with Yaowarat, particularly in the adjacent Talat Noi district, there are great pieces of murals and art installations that remain hidden. Grab a coffee, the pair of walking shoes, and just get lost in the maze of narrow ‘sois’. This is one nice free way to see more of a creative, modern side of this historic neighbourhood.
Enjoy the ride and be adventurous – graze. The best way to experience Yaowarat is by having tiny morsels from several different street food vendors lining the place. This enables you to try such a huge variety of dishes. Don’t dare miss trying a stall that has a long queue of locals; that’s always yummy.
Step up onto the rooftop terrace for a unique, calm breather away from the chaos at street level. Surprisingly, it still remains a quiet space, taking in great views over surrounding rooftops. A cold Chang or Singha beer purchased from the 7-Eleven downstairs and a ‘sundowner’ on the roof as the city’s lights begin to twinkle makes for a very refreshing way to step back into the vibrant night market.
While the hotel is in Chinatown, remember that you are very close to the river. It’s a very short walk, or tuk-tuk ride to Ratchawong Pier. From here, you can catch the Chao Phraya Express Boat, which is an excellent way to travel like a local at incredibly cheap prices. You could take the boat upriver to see the Grand Palace and Wat Arun or just enjoy the incredible views of the city’s temples and modern skyscrapers from the water.
